Trend Alert: Sexy in Sheer

You can’t ignore it – the sheer trend has made a major comeback this season, and with good reason too. The subtle transparency projects some sizzling sensuality, giving the admirers a tantalizing glimpse of your sexy bikini bod without revealing too much. It feels very coquette-ish, if you ask us. We love the femininity that donning an almost-there outfit empowers us with. Faced with hundreds and hundreds of different sheer statement pieces, it can be daunting to style this trend. Fear not; Swimwear World to the rescue!

Let go on your inhibitions and let your inner layer of garments do all the talking. One of the easiest ways to style the sheer trend is to throw on a sheer shift dress over a bright bandeau bikini. You could go with any designer bikini style for that matter, but the bandeau is everywhere this season so why not? The clear contrast between the sheer fabric and bold bikini is just the summer style statement you are looking for. By offering a peek-a-boo of your designer swimwear, it makes for the perfect beach ensemble too!

If a dress is too much to start with, switch it up for a sheer blouse instead. Layer it with a solid colored tank top (you really can’t go wrong with black or white) for the day and a sexy designer bikini top at night. Try the Enjoy bandeau bikini by PilyQ or the Buckle Bandeau Bikini by Sauvage Swimwear.  Add a sharp blazer to the mix to bring the look together or a chunky knit sweater if the weather is chilly.

Always remember to keep it loose (we are talking about your dance moves as well as your blouse, ahem). By way of their slinky material, sheer blouses always look better when worn loose. Even if you decide to tuck it into a high waist pencil skirt or super skinny jeans, pull the material out a bit over your waistband. Try to keep it easy breezy, true to summer style. It might even be a good idea to buy one size bigger than you would normally wear. Because the upper half of your look will be floaty, make sure to add some semblance of structure to the rest of it – a jacket with strong shoulders for a brunch with your girls, super skinny trousers for a meeting or a bandage skirt for a night out on the town. Don’t be shy to play with texture – pair your sheer blouse with denim, tweed, corduroy, leather (super fierce) and whatever else your heart fancies! Feel free to experiment until you find a combination which strikes a chord with your inner fashionista.

To balance out the semi-transparency of your blouse, button it up all the way. The sharp look of a buttoned blouse adds a delightful contrast to the risqué sheerness. By pairing it with a well fitted knee length skirt and a matching blazer, you can even rock this look at work. We bet you didn’t think that was possible!

If you are looking for that bold color and pattern under your sheer top, try this gorgeous balconet style bikini from Seafolly Swimwear. The colors will make a statement through any sheer material. If you are looking for a more subtle floral look, the bandeau bikini from Malai swimwear pictured below, is to-die-for.

Just remember that the key to rocking the sheer trend like a true superstar is to be in full control of your style and your comfort. You are dressing to please yourself; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
